| | | | | | The National Electrical Energy Conservation Program (Procel) aims at fostering the rationalization of electric power consumption, combating wastes and reducing costs in sectorial investments, in addition to increasing energy efficiency. Created by federal government, in 1985, the program is carried out by Eletrobras and uses the company's funds, from the Global Reversion Reserve and also funds from international entities. In 2010, Procel has developed projects that contributed to save near 6.16 billion KWh of energy. This result is equal to the annual electric energy consumption of nearly 3.3 million of residencies, saving an investment of R$ 696 million in expanding electric energy generation. Created in 1993, the Procel Label of Energy Saving indicates to the consumer, upon the purchase, the products that have the best energy efficiency levels within each category. The purpose is stimulating the manufacturing and sale of more efficient products, contributing for the technologic development and reduction of environmental impacts.
Since 1993, the National Award for Conservation and Rational Use of Energy, known as Procel Award, has recognized the efforts and results obtained by agents acting to combat energy waste. Granted ever year, the award aims at stimulating society to implement actions that may reduce electric power consumption.
